Almost every young guys and ladies out there want to have a degree in computer science/IT, but are they really serious about it ? Do they have what it takes to major in this field?
Computer science is not about networking on facebook, twitter, instagram or quora, computer science has a lot to do beyond that.
Most of these guys who want to major in computer science are more fascinated by the job titles, “Software Engineer, Web Developer, Systems Analyst etc”. I see no reason in studying computer science without having knowledge on how to even develop a simple website not to talk of design computer hardware or big software.
There are bunch of computer science graduates out there who are jobless, you know why ? They only have the degree, they don’t have the knowledge and skills.
Computer science need three things from you, if you really want to excel in it “Time, Focus, Patience”.
Your degree in computer science will not earn you a good job if you keep studying the cover of your text books without studying its contents.
Your degree in computer science will not earn you a good job if you make having fun on social media your priority than learning programming.
Your degree in computer science will not earn you a good job if you keep focusing on the wrong things.
Computer science is more of programming than chatting.
Many IT recruiters out there have requirements that go beyond what you are taught in class, in class you might be taught “front end design”, but where is back end ? are you waiting for your lecturer to also teach you that ? No, you don’t do that, you are not going to be taught that in class, you need to teach yourself a lot of things in computer science. You are shown the path, you need to pass through it yourself.
There is no IT company on earth that is going to hire you for web development without you knowing how to develop a website. It is not possible to be a software engineer without knowing how to program.
There are bunch of computer science graduates out there without the necessary skills, don’t be like them, strive, learn and earn.
